about

This is the single from our upcoming album, Madrugada. Make Up My Mind gets its title from a quirky figure of speech Joey's parents used all the time: "will you make up my mind?," usually joking about the indecision of the other person. The title is ironic because it's a self-deprecating joke based on a figure of speech no one else has apparently heard of, but the song is really about a serious breakdown in a serious relationship, and the chorus' description of a sunset really represents the setting on an impending marriage, with no guarantee the sun would rise again. It did in the end, but there was no way anyone could have known at the time the song was written. So Joey was talking to his partner, but also to Heaven, saying "I have no idea what's happening here. Will you make up my mind?"The song also deals with white/male privilege, the ignorance of youth, and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

lyrics

Won't you make up my mind?
don't you take your sweet time

the sky bends down to tuck the sun into bed

what is there left to write
when you've nothing to say and everything to learn?
what is there left to ask
when nothing did you lack and nothing did you earn?

the sky bends down to tuck the sun into bed
